  • AFRISA

AFRISA, the Africa Institute for Strategic Animal Resource Services and Development, is an autonomous agency of Makerere University and her local and international partners. With a corporate approach, the Not-For-Profit organization is powered by innovative partnerships for positive societal change

We aim to equip a generation of people to face the extraordinary challenges of the centuries to come. We particularly target the young people, and creating employment, nurturing value addition and improved production systems is our inherent passion.

The AFRISA approach is a fundamental paradigm shift from the classical “Ivory Tower” model to the ACP3 (Academic-Community-Public-Private Partnership) model of capacity building and societal transformation, with transformative skills, science, technology and innovation as primary pillars. Thus, AFRISA is a 21st century premier design for taking Universities to the communities in Africa.

  • EcoHealth National Rotation

EcoHealth is an elective rotation for senior veterinary students from the five veterinary faculties across Canada.

During the course, students learn approaches to investigating and proposing resolutions to disease problems involving animal and human health with ecosystem implications.  They are presented with problems, or cases specific to the natural, agronomic, industrial, and community priorities in the regions they are visiting, always aware of the political system in which they must operate.

This flagship course, the only one that bridges all the veterinary faculties across Canada, is in its 19th year, and going strong, with the support of the Deans of Veterinary Medicine, and in recognition of the growing relevance of EcoHealth and One Health in veterinary medicine.

To find out more see the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre (CCWHC) website.

  • University of Edinburgh

    MSc/Dip/Cert by online distance learning

One Health is an emerging approach that studies the complex relationships and
interactions between animal health, human health and ecosystem health.

The University of Edinburgh was the first UK University to address the need for
One Health professional training. This MSc draws together Edinburgh’s multidisciplinary
expertise with a proven track record to deliver first-class teaching in One Health.

Targeted at students with a degree in veterinary and human medicine, agricultural
science, biology, health, eco-health or related science or social science subjects
and building on a solid foundation of biological, veterinary, medical, pathological
and epidemiological principles, this programme will equip students with the skills
needed to identify, control and manage human and animal diseases in complex
ecosystems and to mitigate risk. The programme will enable students to advance
“One Health” beyond the theoretical to the practical, and bring much-needed
attention to the policy and operational issues that ultimately will be key
determinants for success. Due to the online delivery method, courses can be
studied over 1, 2 or 3 years to Certificate, Diploma or Masters level.
